Frequently Asked Questions about IDI® by CultureALL
The Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI) is a 50-question online survey. It provides a snapshot of the broad range of mindsets at work in your organization. These mindsets range from knowing how to bridge cultural differences to trusting that culture just isn’t a factor in how the work gets done.
Organizations use IDI for multiple reasons, but generally it’s because they want to create an environment where team members feel understood, valued, and productive.
Insights from IDI open new windows to see new opportunities in the areas of marketing, sales, product development, employee engagement, recruiting, other HR practices, and more. The project team at your organization will work with CultureALL to interpret the data and identify such opportunities.
IDI will ask you to react to a set of statements. These statements are ones you could overhear in everyday conversations, such as: “Our culture's way of life should be a model for the rest of the world.”
IDI does not survey your opinions and beliefs, and it does not test your knowledge on any subject. There are no right or wrong answers. What it is looking for is objective insight into how your organization engages with cultural differences.
Your responses add valuable insight that favorably influences the overall data and analysis.
CultureALL will present a report to the project team at your organization. This report will be a sum total of all the inventory data. Your individual responses to the survey will roll up and combine with your colleagues’ into an overall summary. The project team will decide who needs to see the overall findings from the IDI report and whether to share it.
No one.
It is not possible for anyone to see what you put into the survey.
Yes.
You can request a summary that pertains only to you. The report summary will indicate which mindset(s) you tend to use when interacting with people whose beliefs and behaviors are different from your own.
No one else will have access to your report, and you will not be able to see anyone else's report either.
Schedule a time to meet with a CultureALL Advisor. Plan to allocate 90-minutes for this session.

Typically, people who schedule a one-on-one consultation with a CultureALL Advisor want to know if they are effective at communicating and interacting with people who are different from them. They generally feel good about such moments, yet they wonder if there is something more they could be doing. Some groups seem easy to work with, while other groups are less familiar and feel more challenging to interact with.
People who choose to have a 1:1 consultation hope their session will deepen their understanding of differences - about any kind of difference they might encounter: Cultural, lifestyle, political, generational, abilities, neurodivergence, and many more.
Some people want to know if they’re making decisions or implementing procedures and practices that are constructive and supportive to everyone who could be impacted.
During your one-on-one session with a CultureALL Advisor, you will explore data points from your own survey and what they indicate for you. If you like, your Advisor will also assist you in setting professional and personal development goals.
These conversations are always private and confidential.
